This egg is derived from one of my rose sphere designs by use of differing tangent ratios on the two hemispheres of the parent sphere design, elongating them along the z-axis to produce an egg shape that was pleasing to my eye. This egg is 1.33 times longer than it’s maximum diameter (width). You can of course use tangent ratio on faceted spheres, or this egg design, to generate egg shapes of other length to width ratios and proportions. The hemisphere A planview is shown enlarged to present more detail and is not shown to scale as is the hemisphere B planview. Note that both hemispheres are identical in planview, their facets differing only in elevation angle.

Begin by cutting a 16-sided cylindrical preform. The height of the preformed cylinder should be somewhat greater than 1.33 times its maximum width for you to have enough material and a little leeway when you get to the course 11 and k (pole) facets. When you cut the course 1 facets for the A hemisphere, create a level ‘girdle’ (equator) line dividing the height of preform cylinder proportionately, reserving 60% of the overall height for the B hemisphere.

Transfer when you’ve finished the A hemisphere, and cut the course a-k sequence on the B hemisphere.

If you cut a Rose Egg 480c-64 of your own, be sure and let me know what you’ve cut and how you made out.
