hey gang we here in kennewick wa. lakeside gem and mineal club have started a new gem theme. ron north and i have started freeform faceting the beautiful montana agates. at the NW federation show we have shown to directors and montanan deales and rockhound displayers. and blew there minds. they are no longer just cabs but now a sot-after gem. we use 3/8″ slab pieces in freeform shape and cut to edge center a 30 degree and a 15 degree facets to the vering sides to flat center on both sides. they are unique and no 2 alike. as material becomes scarce and high priced, this new montana agate faceted is a new avenue. ron also does very simple unique silver mountings which makes the statement for faceted agates. if you would like to see what i’m talking about email me and i think i have some pictures i can send you. gemmakermz@cs.com

I’m interested in the pics and any “tips” you might pass along.

Here in the desert southwest, we have just about every type of Agate one can imagine… I’m tired of cutting cabs with ’em.

    I sent an email today.

    Thanks in advance

i am now getting responses from all over and it is starting to take interest. a fellow on ebay (007young) is selling slabbed he’s in montana. i got pieces from him and cut and returned to him and they there are quite enthused with the results. i’m sending a cut stone to delaware to one of the usfg members. i’ve tried to put pictures on here but doesn’t seem to work. so email me and i’ll send some. best is slab agate 5/16-3/8″ 8-11mm. i’m not sure if theres anything that can’t be faceted in some way. one of my students is faceting a transparent, variegated, slab of fluorite, and it to s looking good. gemmakermz@cs.com
