@Scary Teacher 3D I would assume synthetic spinel is allowed unless the rules specifically say “natural spinel only.” Most competition guidelines I’ve seen treat “spinel” as including both natural and synthetic unless otherwise stated, especially at the Pre-Master level where affordability and availability matter. The USFG guidelines even mention “synthetic spinel or corundum” as appropriate Pre-Master materials.
