How do you change to a different cut? To a specific diagram? Is There anywhere to alter anything in the basic diagram which I suspect there must be if you spent two and a half days on it. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Brian,

For now, this is just a variation of the SRB. However, your feedback got me thinking, so I’ve updated the script to read URL values that can function as a library.

I created this URL using the share button; once you paste it into your browser’s address bar, it should self-populate the fields automatically:

This allows you to share the file easily so others can also view the design, rotate the model, and make edits as needed.

What do you think of this as a temporary workaround?

On the technical side, I’ve been refining how I use Gemini for this. I noticed that with scripts over 100 lines, the model can sometimes lose track of existing functions. To solve this, I’ve shifted to requesting only the specific new functions needed for insertion, which keeps the original code intact.

I’m probably not the best one to answer your question but I certainly would be interested in what you are working on/towards. I am 86 and still a virtual novice with computers but with the help of kind folk like Jim (Swarfmaster) I have a huge collection of diagrams which I use on my Mac with the help of Parallels and Gemcad. If it was possible to view and manipulate these diagrams in your system it would be an invaluable aid. Being able to see the result of a slight change of angle etc on the whole stone would be marvellous. Any chance of this or am I completely off the track of its purpose?

Thanks again for persevering with me. When I click on my Mac just in normal mode (not through Parallels) the program comes to life just fine and I am able to eg change an angle and see the corresponding change in the model. I have not yet been fast enough to also see if there are corresponding changes to other readings such as volume, weight, light return, etc. So the basic concept works beautifully in the original Mac format and I was lucky enough to stumble upon how to print off a cutting diagram as well so all I need now are instructions on how to import Diagrams from the USFG List and other sources so that they can be visualised and manipulated as well as this “Brilliant”.

Hi Brian,

Could you share a link to the USFG diagram? I want to review the layout to determine what adjustments are needed to ensure the design integrates correctly with the input fields.

I anticipate we’ll need to add at least two new fields: Gear Selection and Symmetry. Having the link now will ensure we’re both working from the same baseline before I start the updates.

Hi Keith

Go to the “Home” page and click on ” Facet Diagrams.org” and then enter any name that you know or even just a shape and an index number and you will be able to choose from any number of diagrams. Of course there are multiple sources of other diagrams available in other places as well. It was these types of diagrams that I was hopeful of being able to transfer across to your system to be able to manipulate like the original “Diamond” if that is possible.

The interface features two sliders: the top one moves the cutter in coarse increments, while the one directly underneath allows for fine adjustments to align the orange cutoff to a precise meet point.

I’m unable to attach images here to illustrate the setup, but I can provide a YouTube video showing an SRB being dialed in and cut if that helps. This functionality should now support the cutting of many different designs.

Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything else added to make this functional.

Thank you for taking so much time trying to help me understand this marvellous program. I don’t do social media but I will get my daughter to help me with the You Tube video if you post it. She is away for the Easter long weekend. Am I right in assuming that I can’t just import any finished diagram and then manipulate it with the program as I hoped?

There is no audio, but it should illustrate the sequence of dialing in new angles, aligning meet points, and performing the cuts.

Regarding future updates, I’m planning to add a library feature soon to support imports and exports. I am also working on automatic meet point detection, which will eventually make the manual sliders unnecessary.

Thanks for the demo Keith. That was very helpful. If I can get some spare time today I will try generating a cut with different L/W measurements. I would like to see what happens to the overall diagram, once established, if only the L/W ratio is varied. So many great ideas, so little time.

Hello again Keith

I spent quite a few hours today without a great deal of success due to my own lack of ability and familiarity with the program. I also jumped in the deep end and tried a rectangular shape straight off which after watching the video again was probably not wise.

The cut I chose was “Tie” by Don Serafin. Rectangle 04-084 which I have used with some success on some of the sapphires we dug during our younger days on the Central Queensland Gemfields around Rubyvale.

I ran into lots of problems trying to set the “marker” point for the second tier of facets so didn’t get to progress beyond that stage. Hours of trying different approaches yielded no better results. Now that I have rewatched the video I think I will do better tomorrow. Will keep you posted.
