Just started learning faceting!
Just wanted to introduce myself. I am in Central Georgia. I am new to faceting and recently just bought an antique faceter. A Vargas Fac-a-Gem. Needed some minor work but its fixed now. what attracted me to this craft is that I love precision, and I enjoy creating art. I have been a machinist in the past, so that level of precision is something I am familiar with. I do engraving and gunsmithing, so all the engraving equipment, including a stereo observation microscope was already in my shop. Eventually I am hoping to do custom jewelry of my own design as a side business, but that won’t happen until I master faceting in a more rapid manner.
I attached my first successful attempt at a stone. This was amethyst, and I am pretty pleased with the result, despite completely missing a set of pavillion facets. Currently working on a large champagne citrine in a 3 Chevron rectangle cut.

Welcome to the USFG and faceting. In the late ’60s and through the ’70s there were many machinists that were members of the faceting clubs. Most of them have left us now, but it’s good to see that you love accurate work and see faceting as a hobby that suits you.
