Tagged: yes has been cut
Hello faceters, iam trying to get thru cutting jeff fords Egypt eye and Im having problems with the crown facets near the corners of the eye. If anyone knows this design I would like to hear about any tips or tricks they used. The eye ball is not becoming round , im following the diagram perfectly. The pavilion gave no problems at all.
Great question!!!!
From what I can tell…Ford’s Egypt Eye, was Jeff Ford’s attempt to take on a challenge presented by Fred VanSant on page 16-18 of the March 2000 USFG Newsletter. You can download that newsletter from the USFG website Library. VanSant’s re-design of the Pharoh’s Eye might provide you with the answers you are looking for.
I am also going to attach my attempt at a re-design, which might also shed some light on your efforts.
However, I believe the design was meant to be freewheeled, such that the eyeball gets curved, or “scaloped”. This design is certainly up for interpretation, and that is what Fred VanSant concluded.
Enjoy, and let me know if you want more details.
My re-design effort.
Hey thanks jeff, yes my eyeball is not curving as well as the diagram shows.I will try your design after I give up or finish the Egypt eye. Im glad to see you give cutting tips , that might be whats makes yours a successful cut for me. Ive had to cheat like crazy to get even a somewhat curved eyeball on this Egypt eye.
