I’m looking to talk with anyone who might be near my location (Omaha, Nebraska). My father, Art Kavan (Tucsan, AR) was able to teach me the fundamentals of faceting before he passed away. I’m looking to continue learning but it’s difficult when there is no one near to bounce ideas off of and to talk faceting with. If anyone knows of anyone nearby please contact me.

    Jeff:

I am from Nebraska! I grew up in Waverly….. but I live in Houston, Texas now. I am currently the Chairman for the Houston Gem & Mineral Society, Gemstones & Faceting Section. If you don’t find anyone local, you are welcome to contact me. I should be able to help you get started, or with any particular topic. I don’t know it all, but I’ve been cutting for 12 years and am very familiar with the basics, including some helpful tips and tricks.

You can reach me at (832) 444-6086, or RLCarlson01@Gmail.com, or find me on Facebook.

    Best regards,

Thanks for the reply. I will contact you when I get a chance. However, I’m really hoping to find someone here that I can talk with and work with face to face. Though I guess with FaceTime (on iPhone) that’s not a complete necessity. It’s still the best way to learn more I think.

    Jeff,

I was also born in Nebraska (North Platte) and lived in Omaha, Lincoln and Sidney. I left Nebraska when I was 14 and am now retired in Florida. I teach faceting, an the Chairman/President of a Faceting Guild in Florida and have written a book for beginners on faceting. If you need help with anything please call me (352) 751-0906. I will help you in any way that I can.
