Grand Master – Sun stone- 12 mm – facet rough available?
Master – CZ – What color would be suggested?
Pre-Master – Corundum – Can we use synthetic?
Novice – My choice of material, I like marbles! Colored glass, tv picture tubes. What else is there glass?

I do not know, but the Grand Master is a bit of a challenge just to get a large enough piece of rough. I honestly think if you can polish quartz you can polish sun stone, Anyway the picture shown looks like smokey quartz to me. And it is my favorite design next to the pear shape, which does not look jewelry friendly. Any thoughts on the depth of the stone?
I am going to cut them all to see which I like, use my gem cut studio and have fun. See which ones fit into jewelry the best. Any thoughts?

Sunstone is easy to polish, but the problem I’ve had is finding rough that’s deep enough.
You may indeed use synthetic corundum. Unless you happen to have a chunk of ruby big enough 🙂
There are synthetic glasses with higher refractive indices. I’ve used Jewelite, laser gems and Nano-sital. TVite is pretty good, too.

@Bobdrbob that sounds amazing, very interested. But my pockets are shallow. Give m a shout if I can find out more about this stone. Thanks, Scott
