I am working with a parcel of Afghan bi-color tourmalines that are very nice colors but quite a few inclusions. When using 8000 the “swarf” is sucking up into the inclusion and making the inclusion black. I have Soaked in acetone, but without making much of a dent in getting it out. I have considered purchasing an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner, but don’t want to waste money if anyone has experience otherwise.Have had this difficulty with beryl as well.

Need more information. What lap, polishing agent and lubricant are you using? There are a number of remedies.

Greenway™ or Skyway™ bound oxide laps do not pack flaws and are favored by emerald cutters. They are very effective on tourmaline.

16CFR part 255 mandatory disclosure: I manufacture these laps and have a commercial interest in them.

    Thanks Jon,
Instead of 3k, 8k, 50k in diamond, would I use the greenway alone after the 3k?
