Ive emailed them a couple of times and got a few responses. I have seen any personal reason not to order from them but everyone says they’re bad. Im just a student in college looking for a hobby like this to work on my dexterity, do something with my gem collection, and just stand out a bit. Should I wait for investments to pop off and buy an ultratec or risk it with graves? what are some personal experiences people have had ordering from them and how long ago was it?
You would be better off to buy the ultra tec. I havent heard of any graves machines being manufactured and sold lately.
It appears that Graves is back in business, after a few rough years. People have been getting product from them, but I don’t know of anyone buying a faceting machine recently. I’d want a firm commitment before ordering.
That said, the Graves Mark 5XL Digital is a fine machine, especially for the price.
Ok.. I have had an order in for `MONTHS’. No reply to my order, no responds to voice mail. Tried calling at least 15 times and no answer or do they respond to any voice mail. Left messages on his answering service, cell phone and work. I did speak to him for a min one time and all he said was that they were moving. Waited another month plus and still nothing. I am in a class and the instructor tried several months trying to contact him and finally got a response from an e-mail and got part of his order but that was months ago and still hasn’t received the rest of his order or response. I ended up giving up on them and got me a Shaw. So glad I did because I work on a Graves in my class, and this shaw is more accurate and a lot faster. Bummer is they take a special dops, but a nice variety and set came with the machine.

If you’re asking about machines, as flfaceter73 said, I’d go for the Ultra-Tec. Better machines, will take you farther, etc.
Even if you decide to go with a Graves machine for price point reasons, that’s fine, but I would not order it from Graves directly. Look for one being sold used that you can touch and take home. Don’t send your money to Graves and think that will result in a machine at your door any time soon, if at all.
